We are thrilled to announce the introduction of Northern Light Woodworks, offering custom built cedar strip canoes, kayaks and paddles.

Tim Bush is a carpenter by trade and along with home construction, fine finish work and other assorted woodworking he was inspired after building a couple of cedar strip canoes and getting accolades from everyone who laid eyes on these boats. At a gathering for amatuer and professional boat builders, his canoe had swarms of experienced builders complimenting his style and attention to detail. He started dreaming ..... I want to build boats ..... How can I make this happen?

The story continues with a hand scrawled advertisement for a dismantled old barn found on a bulletin board at our local country store. Our dreams of having a workspace for creating boats was in reach and Tim spent the spring and summer of 2004 meticulously restoring and re-building the hand-hewn hemlock barn.

With the barn completed by the fall, he set off to create boats. Taking the winter months to craft and assemble, he has built custom flat water kayaks of the same basic design yet each with amazingly different details. Personally hand picking each piece of cedar, these natural wood patterns are definitely one of a kind.

Handcrafted in an 1850's post and beam barn on the banks of the Mad River in Warren, Vermont, these boats are lovingly built with the finest attention to detail.

Last night we took the maiden voyage in our boats on a local pond and were thrilled with the design! They track gracefully through the water, are effortless to paddle and most importantly extremely comfortable. Needless to say, they turned a lot of heads of folks passing by!!

Northern Light Woodworks will be offering canoes and sea kayaks as well as regular and Greenland paddles.

We will be traveling the New England lakes and ponds this summer and hope to see you on the water!
